Dry conditions contribute to dry facial skin and it is extremely uncomfortable. Dry facial skin can make you want to scratch your face and that can make the problem worse. The worst part for me is it makes my nose itch as well, and makes me feel like I have to sneeze. Although there are some areas of your body that may be drier than others, which includes your stomach, calves, or arms dry facial skin is perhaps the worst. It makes your skin feels tight and dehydrated. It also makes you appear weathered and can cause flaking of the skin and those dreaded fine lines. In the worst cases, severe dry facial skin can result in deep cracks over time that will bleed as your lips do when they are chapped.

Seek the advice of a doctor if the dryness turns into open sores that get infected or when the condition does not improve over time. There could be an underlying health issue besides your dry skin that needs to be addressed first. Don’t worry, while dry facial skin can be embarrassing, it is usually not a serious condition.

So, how to you treat dry facial skin? One of the culprits contributing to dry facial skin is the use of chemicals. In other words the astringent you are using to treat your acne may be a contributing factor. I did not realize this until I started feeling itching around my nose and checks. Yes, I did manage to clear up the occasional acne problem, but in the process I created another problem. What I did not think about was my face may be oily on my forehead, but that was not the case in other areas.

Other factors are the soaps you use. One product may smell good but it could be what is contributing to your dry facial skin. It is a sensitive area we often treat like our favorite clothes; just wash and wear. Changing the approach to skin care is a good place to start when combating dry facial skin. Start by thinking about your cleansing routine. If you use an astringent then try limiting your use to only once or twice a week.

Changing your current soap products can also help relieve dry facial skin. Check your local supermarket or drug store for travel sizes of products. You can also look on the label of soaps and facial products and then go to the company’s website, and see if they offer samples. These smaller samples are a great way to test the product to see how it affects your skin.

The same is true for your laundry detergent. This may be one area that is most often overlooked, but could also be contributing to your dry facial skin. Think about it, we lay our heads on the pillow and never think about the case possibly being washed in a detergent that is causes our dry facial skin. It is often these simple little things that contribute to skin conditions. Should your dry facial skin continue or worsen though be sure to seek the advice of your doctor or a dermatologist’s who can assist in finding a solution.

What causes hives? This was the question on my mind as I watched my Aunt suffer with Hives. For her, hives causes frustration and embarrassment as is the case for many. For her family and friends it was painful to watch her suffer a sudden outbreak of red splotches that made her itch.

She never knew when she would break out in hives or where they would appear. Sometimes they appeared in small patches on her throat or face. From those she spoke to who experienced similar symptoms hives causes redness on the ears as well, and can appear on your tongue and lips.

Her doctor said that hives or Urticaria as the condition is referred to in the medical field, are often caused by a change in our immune system. He told her that histamine, a chemical released in our skin results in hives when we are allergic to chemicals in foods such as nuts, shellfish, eggs, and chocolate. The latter really disappointed her since she loved chocolate.

Another concern for those suffering from hives are the medications they have been prescribed. Among the medications related to hive causes that her doctor mentioned are aspirin, codeine, penicillin and anticonvulsant drugs. She was taking aspirin as a health precaution and decided to stop temporarily until she and her doctor could find the cause of her hives.

He also explained hives causes can be related insect bites or stings. One of the hives causes the doctor did mention made my Aunt reconsider her plans for a trip to Florida. He mentioned that over exposure to sunlight and extreme heat can also cause hives, especially when we sweat or wear tight clothing. Other than occasionally applying sunscreen, she never really took precautions to protect her skin. It made sense though since she found herself exercising more on vacation, which made her sweat more.

As we found out there are many hives causes, and the trick is working with your doctor to narrow down the triggers. Stress is a common hives cause, as well as certain medical conditions like viral infections, leukemia, and autoimmune diseases like lupus. The most popular treatment for hives is antihistamines prescribed by your doctor to help provide relief from symptoms.

To help find the hives causes her doctor gave her list of some of the most common causes for hives or Urticaria. These hives causes included, but are not limited to:

A change in our immune system

Allergies to chemicals in foods - nuts, shellfish, eggs, and chocolate

Environmental Allergies – pollen, pet dander, harsh detergents, lotions or soaps

Side effects of medications - aspirin, codeine, penicillin and anticonvulsant drugs

Reactions to outside sources - insect bites or stings, sunlight, heat

Emotional factors – emotional stress, nervousness

Medical conditions - viral infections, leukemia, and autoimmune diseases like lupus

The hardest part of finding the hives causes was the time it took her. Overtime, she found that most of her symptoms were related to stress. She’s always been a bit high strung, and after learning some relaxation techniques it helped tremendously. She also found that she breaks out less in hives while on vacation when it is really hot in Florida because she takes breaks and keeps cool. And, she’s not allergic to chocolate!

If you are experiencing similar symptoms consult with your doctor who can explain what the most common causes for hives or Urticaria. He or she can also help you find the hives causes in your life that may be triggering your reaction.

A hives treatment can consist of various medications or there are a number of natural remedies that can be tried. Although, when you have Hives or Urticaria, as the condition is referred to by medical professionals, it can be a challenge to find the source of your symptoms. Is it stress causing your hives or is it a reaction to environmental factors like exposure to the sun or food allergy? These are questions your doctor can help you answer in order to find the best hives treatment to suit your case.

Once you and your doctor have uncovered the allergy causing agent of your symptoms, there are important factors to consider. The first is to avoid the allergen in order for your hives treatment to be successful. If you are allergic to certain food products such as eggs or shellfish, then avoid them. Of course, this can be difficult, especially if you are allergic to chocolate, but to ensure that your hives treatment works some sacrifices must be made as my mother says.

A physician may prescribe certain anti histamines medications. Speaking to your local Pharmacist’s is another great resource for hives treatment options and preventive measures. Over the counter drugs for hives treatment could include Benedryl, Atarax, and Avil. As with any medical condition it is wise to speak to your doctor before beginning a treatment or taking medications. The last thing you need another reaction to deal with while searching for relief.

As a child, my sister and I were very adventurous, and it did not take us long before we found a patch of poison ivy. The cure-all for itching, rashes, and hives that our mother used was calamine lotion or zinc oxide; that are both effective hives treatment options. And, applying a Cool compression or soaking in a cool bath is very helpful as well for relief.

Aloe Vera is a natural option as well. Local drug stores and supermarkets usually care Aloe Vera in a lotion or gel form. I believe there is a difference between what you find over-the-counter and the actually plant. I cannot personal use the liquid from an Aloe Vera it because it gives me a rash; although I have heard from family members that it is an effective hives treatment. On the other hand, I can use lotions that contain Aloe Vera, so I suggest that you use caution when trying to find a hives treatment so you do not aggravate the condition.

Our grandmother planted many herbs, which she used to treat a number of ailments. The herbs that she said helped to reduce inflammation were Sandal Wood, known as Santalum alba, Holy Basil or Ocimum sanctum, and Henna or Lawsonia inermis. She used such herbs to treat an assortment of ailments, including as hives treatment and to lessen the sting of a bug bite. She created a paste that was applied to the area affected and soon afterwards helped reduce swelling and calm the irritation.

Other healing ingredients that are effective as a hives treatment are a paste made of Cream of Tartar and water, which helps the itching. You can also make a paste from the meat of a Papaya, which not only works as a hives treatment, but helps make your skin healthier. As with any treatment though, it is best seek the advice of your doctor first.

Normally, acne is caused by hormonal fluctuations and overproduction of oil around the face area. But as strange as it may sound- cosmetics may be another cause for it.

This unique type of Acne is accompanied by the appearance of tiny, red bumps that spread like a rash over the cheeks, forehead & chin. This condition is usually caused by over-using of certain make-up brands…

Fault?

The one to blame is the oil that is added to some cosmetics to produce a “smoother” look. The oil functions like the naturally occurring oil sebum and can block pores and lead to the appearance of blackheads, whiteheads, and other acne infections.

Another factor to blame is dye. Dyes usually clog pores and cause blackheads and whiteheads to show up. Dyes can be found in blushes, and many types of make-up.

One more component to blame is fragrance. Today, most manufacturers add fragrance ingredients to mask & hide the smell of other ingredients. These supplemented fragrances (Ambrette, musk, bergamot….) may cause allergic reactions on the face, and boost the occurrence of acne cosmetica.

Pityriasis rosea can easily be confused with a common rash or skin irritation. This harmless skin problem commonly affects people between the ages of 10 to 35 years of age. Pityriasis rosea is not caused by an allergic reaction or fungus. Some experts believe it is the result of a virus or a viral infection, although tests come out negative when they look for genetic substances. And, those affected by pityriasis rosea do not have a high temperature.

So what is Pityriasis rosea? In the beginning the rash may appear as one oval or round spot that has a pink hue. There may be a raised edge around the area and it may feel scaly to the touch. Pityriasis rosea can be found on your arms, back, along your legs, chest and on your stomach. In certain cases pityriasis rosea spreads along the neck as well. For those suffering from the rash there may be a slight itch, and the condition can last a few short weeks or up to several months depending on the severity of the condition.

Other symptoms of pityriasis rosea include tiredness, loss of appetite, headaches, or nausea. These symptoms are similar to those of a common cold. The condition is often confused with other skin irritations like eczema and ringworm. Certain medical conditions also have rash that resemble pityriasis rosea and prescriptions like antibiotics can also cause a rash in certain people so it is a good idea to talk to your doctor about your condition. Having a family doctor that you build a long relationship with is helpful because the doctor knows your medical history and should be able to help diagnose the problem.

The incubation period of pityriasis rosea is normally up to eight weeks in most cases. The effects of the condition can be intensified by physical work outs, which may a result of sweating. Often the itching that accompanies pityriasis rosea can be treated with skin lotions. In some instances use of anti-inflammatory medications can help ease severe itching. Medications for antifungal conditions are basically ineffective because pityriasis rosea is not caused by a fungus.

When treating a rash, including pityriasis rosea it is helpful to keep the area as dry as possible. Cool clothes can ease discomfort. Avoid too much moisture in the affected area because repeated wetting can cause the skin to get too dry and make you want to scratch it more. You should avoid taking hot baths or showers, which may worsen the condition. This may be because the heat opens the pores and any seeping fluid from the wound may spread.

A helpful way to combat the itch and rash caused by pityriasis rosea is to take a cool oatmeal bath. Remember to avoid hot baths. Cool baths are also of great relief for chicken pox and outbreaks from exposure to poison ivy or oak. Using a hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion are good alternatives to oatmeal baths for relief from pityriasis rosea. Taking an antihistamine like Benadryl will probably be one of the medications found at your local pharmacy that your doctor will suggest. While treating a condition like pityriasis rosea you should avoid heavy detergents for bathing or laundry. These products may worsen the rash. If you have symptoms of pityriasis rosea or another form of rash consult your doctor for advice before proceeding with medications if you are uncertain of the effects.

We take vitamins for a number of reasons; the first is for our health. Most of us would rather be healthy than be sick all the time. How often do you consider whether what you are taking is good for your skin as well? While we may overlook this area there are vitamins for skin that can help by improving the look and feel of our skin.

It is an amazing pick-me-up when you meet someone you have not seen in years and they tell you how great you look. The biggest mystery on their minds when they look at themselves in the mirror may be how you managed to stay looking so young. The secret is a combination of everyday tricks and vitamins for skin care that anyone can use to keep that healthy, youthful glow.

It’s all a state of mind is what my father once said regarding aging. He was right on many levels. If we are young in our hearts then people pick up on this feeling of youthful joy within minutes of meeting you. Feeling young and looking young does require a bit of dedication when you get older. This is where vitamins for skin and your overall health come into play. Among the top on the list of vitamins is vitamin E. This little jewel in a clear casing has been shown to help heal damages from the sun, improve the feel of your skin and reduce wrinkles. Yes, reduce wrinkles.

Vitamin C is another choice of vitamins for skin care. Along with reducing the affects of the sun from the UVB radiation, Vitamin C contains antioxidants that can help your skin when combined with Vitamin E. It is also a good way to help build up your immune system, which helps fight common colds and illnesses. You are already on the right track if you have been taking either of these to improve your general health.

Other conditions that affect your skins appearance are environmental factors like pollution and smoking. Taking vitamins for skin and in general can help as a preventive measure and as a form renewal for the mind and body. Along with taking vitamins for skin you can help by eating a good diet that includes produce that is high in vitamin C. These include leafy greens, cauliflower, bell peppers, and citrus fruits. This is an important part of your health routine that should not be overlooked. Vitamins are great, but they have limited affects and are often not as effective as when they are combined with a healthy diet.

Vitamin A is also among the good vitamins for skin care. If you notice that your skin feels dry and a touch flaky this could be a related to a lack of vitamin A in your diet. This is the vitamin that is responsible for repairing your skin, and a lack of it makes it harder for your body to heal properly. Again, this is where eating fruits and vegetables can make a big difference.
If you are already taking vitamins for skin care and have not seen any changes you may want to seek the advice of a dermatologist or your family doctor. They can help you pinpoint any health or diet issues affecting your skin.

When it comes to seeking advice for a women’s hair loss treatment is can be a touchy topic. Who wants to admit they are losing their hair? Few women I know will admit to losing their hair. It is one thing when a man looses his hair and a whole different story when a woman faces the loss of her hair. Call us vain or consumed with our appearance, but the moment you start loosing your hair you will understand the concern.

We can laugh about it before we find ourselves in the middle of this gradual process. Although, once it becomes noticeable women’s hair loss treatment no longer is a laughing matter. The hardest fact for women to face is the onset of androgenetic alopecia, otherwise known as the hereditary condition of hair loss for women. It is as if Mother Nature is out to get you when this pattern of hair loss sets in. If this is case or you start to realize you are losing your hair call your family doctor to get a referral to a dermatologist who specializes in hair loss. Often they have experienced the issue themselves and can be very supportive and offer suggestions for women’s hair loss treatments that you may not have considered.

When thinking of women’s hair loss treatments what is the first thing that comes to mind? Are you prepared to run out and buy the prescription drugs your doctor or dermatologist suggests to reduce your hair loss? Would you consider going through the process of hair implants to resolve your hair loss condition? These are real factors to consider when it comes to dealing with your hair loss.

Then again, there is another solution; take charge of your hair loss and the influences that may be causing it. Of course this usually applies in regards to the benefit of others such as family, or those we love. Now it is time to take charge of your health and realize women’s hair loss treatments are within our grasp.

Minoxidil - Among the popular products used for the treatment of hair loss is Minoxidil. First prescribed in a tablet form, it was used to treat high blood pressure. It was not long before doctors realized that patients taking the medication experienced excessive hair growth. By applying a mixture of minoxidil on the scalp hair was also stimulated to grow, and studies have shown it is more effective for women than men.

Ketoconazole - Ketoconazole or Nizoral is a topical treatment prescribed by a doctor, and is used to treat fungal infections. It also has been shown to help treat hair loss. Available in a shampoo formula contains 2% of Ketoconazole, and is prescribed for the treatment of scalp conditions. Although less effective in some cases because the formula contains only 1% of Ketoconazole over-the-counter shampoos are available.

Proscar - Proscar in 5 mg pills was first used to treat the prostate. A 1 mg version approved by the FDA was later sold under the brand name Propecia, and was used for men’s hair loss. While it is used in men, women who are not pregnant or planning to get pregnant can use it to prevent hair loss and regrowth.

Cimetidine - Another medication is Cimetidine or Tagamet, which has been used to treat gastrointestinal ulcers. This medication has been shown to have powerful anti-androgenic effect that is often used a preventive measure and also used to treat excess facial hair growth in women.

Hormones - Hormones found in contraceptive are also an option for treating hair loss. Among the contraceptive found to help stop further hair loss and help regrowth Diane 35 and Diane 50. In the case of hormones, you doctor can help suggest what is best to accomplish your goals, and any potential side effects.

While those treatments are proved to help, some say they are not the best for your health and may cause side effects. It is good thing to look into any medication before you use it. You may also try to use natural herbs and treatments to treat women hair loss. Natural treatments will be covered in my next article about women hair loss.

Using vitamins for acne would never have occurred to me when I was young. According to my mother I was allergic to chocolate, which I ate often. As for my friends, who did not enjoy chocolate, it appeared the acne was the curse of our youth. We scrubbed; we tried lotions and creams to no avail. So later in life when the thought of using vitamins for acne was suggested by a friend, I thought I’d give it a try.

One thing to consider when looking for options to treat your acne is your diet. The old saying that we are what we eat makes perfect sense. Eat too much and you get heavy. The same is true for a lack of certain vitamins and nutrients that build up our immune systems and protect us from diseases. A healthy diet will help reduce breaks out as well as choosing the right vitamins for acne.

While many studies suggest that milk is good for your body for some drinking milk can contribute to acne. Milk personally makes my stomach upset, although I can eat limited amounts of cheese and ice cream without a problem. There are alternatives to getting your daily intake of vitamin D and calcium such as eating more fruits and vegetables. One of the key element in caring for your health and overall appearance is to address deficiency in vitamins needed to support good bone strength and health in general. A lack or unbalanced diet could result in an outbreak of ache or worse, a weakened immune system, which makes you more susceptible to illness.

You will find that the vitamins for acne like the A vitamins are used often for the treatment of this skin condition. Vitamin A is found in prescriptions and cosmetic products in the form of Retin-A or Accutane. While these do contain vitamins for acne treatment caution should be taken to avoid high dosages unless advised by a doctor or dermatologist.

Among the popular vitamins for acne is Vitamin E as well, which is also a key ingredient in many cosmetic products. Vitamin E capsules resemble oblong fish eggs to me. The oil inside though is ideal for the treatment of ache and be applied directly on the affected area. As in the case of applying anything to sensitive skin some may find that using certain chemicals and vitamins for acne treatments may cause irritation rather than promoting healing.

One point to consider when taking vitamins for acne or as dietary supplement is that certain vitamins enhance the absorption of the properties needed. This is the case when you take vitamins for acne. The A and E vitamins work best is you also take Zinc. Desitin, that is commonly used to treat diaper rash contains zinc and can be applied directly to the areas affected to kill surface bacteria and treat acne.

In addition to vitamins for acne, your hormones can increase break outs, which is believed to be the case when we are adolescents. A good vitamin to help balance your hormones is magnesium that helps reduce the effect of overactive hormonal cycles, and lessen outbreaks of acne. It is advised that you check with your family doctor or dermatologists for advice on vitamins for acne and other treatment options first before making changes in your lifestyle.

Myth No.1: Acne develops as a result of poor hygiene… Hmm.. If you believe that silly old myth, and try to wash your skin too hard and too frequently, you may actually worsen your situation. Acne is not caused by dirt or on-surface skin oils - ut has deeper roots. Too much washing or scrubbing may irritate the skin and make worsen your acne.
Myth No.2: Acne is caused by a certain diet. Well, not exactly. Scientific studies have not yet found a valid connection between any type of diet and acne. In other words, food does not cause acne. And yes - that means chocolate, fries and other fatty foods that we all like.
Myth No.3: Acne is just a minor, superficial cosmetic problem. WRONG. Acne can result in permanent physical scars–plus, acne itself as well as its scars can have substantial psychological affects.
Myth No.4: There’s no point trying to beat acne - just let it pass by itself. WRONG. Acne can be cleared up when properly treated. Go see a dermatologist. With the products available today, there is no reason why someone has to suffer from acne throughout it’s adolescence.

Finasteride , (aka by the brand name “Propecia®”) is an orally administered treatment for male pattern baldness. It is the only specific Mail pattern hair loss medication approved by the FDA so far. Research conducted for many years which tested a little over one million patients had proved that Finasteride is both safe and effective in treating male hair loss. The results included men of all ages, races, ethnic backgrounds and so on.

Finasteride is occasiobally used in conjunction with minoxidil in order to optimize the results.

Finasteride is most effective when used in early to moderate degrees of hair loss. Men suffering from extensive hair loss are unlikely to experience a significant improvement when using finasteride. They’ll be much better as candidates for hair transplantation.

Finasteride works at the molecular level to stop hair loss and stimulate the growth of new hair. The treatment selectively inhibits the activity of an enzyme that converts the testosterone into a form that is active in hair follicles.

The “balding” tissues are responsive to a form of testosterone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Finasteride acts by indirectly inhibiting the conversion of testosterone into DHT.

Finasteride for treatment of hair loss should be prescribed only after examination by a physician hair restoration specialist.

Finasteride is not approved the use in women, and particularly in women who are pregnant or who become pregnant. since the treatment has potential for interfering with sexual development of a fetus.
