Optimize Your Nutrition To Defeat Acne…

The common case of acne usually develops as a result of blockages in the skin’s follicles (microcomedo) caused by over-production of keratin and sebum.  This  leads to an enlargement in the sebaceous glands that cause a further production of Sebum. This microcomedo may swell and form two types of “zits”:  An open comedone (blackhead) or a closed comedone (whitehead).  Whitehead (common Acne “zits” ) are the direct result of a situation where Bacteria attackes the clogged skin pores.

But you’re not here to hear about the root causes of Acne - You’re here to find a simple way to reduce it - and one of the best ways to fight Acne is through preventive nutrition:

Scientists from RMIT university (Melbourne, Australia)  studied the effects of food on a large group of subjects (age ranging from  15 to 25 ),

The subjecys were given a (randomly assigned) normal diet and a low glycemic carb diet for a period of 84 days. ..

The “special” diet consisted of 25 percent energy from protein and 45 percent from low-glycemic-index carbohydrates.

The study findings supported the notion that people who consume  low-glycemic-index carbs on a regular basis

are less likely to develop serious  cases of acne when compared to people on a normal diet.

Glycemic Index  relates to the  way our bodies’ sugar levels respond to carb based foods.  Foods are given a Glycemic Index  rating that ranges from 0 -100 ( pure glucose in the highest position) . The GI of the foods we consume affects our bodies suger levels and Insulin release - and also our hormonal function. All these processes greatly influence the stae of our skin.

So, if you want to reduce acne and have a “zit free” skin - try to avoid foods that have high GI like white bread, sugar and etc.

Try Low GI foods instead: whole grains, vegetables, low-fat dairy products and etc -  as these foods are kinder to your skin…

Good Luck!
